The Build Local Alliance works to improve the vitality of local forests and related human communities by connecting local, responsibly grown and processed wood with local projects.
We are comprised of foresters and land owners; architects, designers, and builders; furniture and cabinet makers; and other individuals who are interested in developing our local economy through sustainable forestry.

2011 was a lively and productive year for BLA events and activities. Settling into a reliable pattern of a Spring and Fall member events held in Portland, balanced by a summer field adventure in a local forest, members and supporters had many chances to connect and learn together.
Exciting, innovative projects were profiled, we launched the new WoodWatch Program with programs focusing on Oregon White Oak and Western Red Cedar, and our day in the working forest of the Trappist Abbey in Lafayette provided an intriguing story of the Abbey’s ongoing restoration of its forest.
Looking ahead to the new year, BLA volunteers are busy planning and organizing the next round of three unique, high quality, and stimulating events. Stay tuned for specific details on the Spring Showcase (tentatively set for the evening of April 17th), the Summer field adventure, and the Fall Showcase.
WoodWatch featured species for 2012 will be Big Leaf Maple, Yew, and Sitka Spruce. We look forward to seeing and working with you in the coming year.
